What’s Included

Our Optimization Specialties

Focused services to tune performance and prolong field life.

Below the Turf GPR 3D Survey

High‑resolution 3D subsurface surveys map base elevation, compaction, and drainage pathways. Data informs targeted repairs, laser grading plans, and foundation design to eliminate low spots, improve infiltration, and optimize material use.

Field Management

Customized field management plans include scheduled grooming, infill maintenance, temperature management, pest and disease monitoring, and seasonal work programs tailored to your sport mix, usage, and staffing.

Topmaker Field Striping

Precision striping and line layout using Topmaker technology ensures accurate, durable field markings for multi‑sport configurations, event branding, and tournament play — installed to governing body dimensions and visual standards.

Baseball Infield Clay Work & Upgrades

We rebuild and optimize baseball/softball infields with engineered clay mixes, proper crowns, drainage, and base work to improve ball response, safety, and maintenance efficiency for high‑use programs.

Aeration & Topdressing

Aeration and targeted topdressing relieve compaction, enhance root zone structure, and restore surface evenness. Our programs improve infiltration, turf health, and footing while preparing fields for peak seasons.

Case Study

St Louis Cardinals —
Busch Stadium Field Optimization

By late 2016, their playing surface at Busch Stadium had accumulated 11 years of issues that no longer matched the standard the field needed to perform to. The Cardinals engaged Bush Turf for a comprehensive renovation — what Steve Bush described in his own write-up of the project as the equivalent of upgrading the field “from ‘iPhone 4’ status to ‘iPhone 7’ capabilities.” The project also had to be sequenced around Busch Stadium’s hosting of the 2017 NHL Winter Classic.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our sports field optimization services.
What is a Below the Turf 3D Survey and why is it useful?
A high‑resolution subsurface survey that maps base elevations, compaction, and drainage pathways. It pinpoints low spots and structural issues so we can design targeted, cost‑effective corrections.
How often should I schedule field management services?
Frequency depends on use: high‑use municipal or school fields typically need weekly to monthly visits; lower‑use fields can be seasonal. We build schedules based on hours of play, sport types, and staffing.
What does Topmaker field striping offer versus traditional striping?
Topmaker provides precision, durable line layout with digital accuracy for multi‑sport configurations and consistent visual standards, reducing rework and improving tournament readiness.
When are infield clay upgrades necessary?
When ball response, drainage, or safety degrades—typical signs include rutting, poor compaction, irregular footing, and slow drainage. We recommend engineered clay mixes and regrading to restore performance.
Does aeration and topdressing interrupt play?
Aeration and topdressing are typically scheduled during off‑peak windows; brief closures are required but they improve long‑term playability and reduce downtime from compaction and drainage problems.
Can optimization work extend a field’s service life?
Yes. Targeted diagnostics and interventions (drainage corrections, compaction relief, infill management, precision grading) often postpone full replacement and reduce lifecycle costs.
