Construction Strategy and Implementation
The renovation strategy centered on transforming an aging field with drainage and health issues into a modern, flat-profile playing surface that meets contemporary MLB standards. Our approach recognized that while the existing field appeared beautiful to spectators, underlying root decay and growing medium degradation had compromised drainage efficiency and overall field health, creating ongoing challenges for the groundskeeping staff.
Bush Sports Turf’s philosophy emphasized precision execution while respecting the stadium’s operational needs and heritage. Key features included systematic root zone replacement, crown reduction to create a flatter modern profile, and integration of updated irrigation technology. Our all-John Deere equipment fleet not only ensured reliability and performance but also demonstrated the professional presentation that builds confidence with high-profile clients. The project prioritized minimal disruption to stadium operations while delivering a field that would perform at the highest level for years to come.

Execution
The project began with systematic removal of nearly 10,000 cubic yards of deteriorated root zone material. Despite challenging weather conditions including persistent rain, the Bush Sports Turf crew maintained project momentum, completing a quarter of the field removal in the initial days. Our specialized equipment fleet, including multiple John Deere 85G Excavators and the versatile 50G Excavator, enabled efficient material handling even in adverse conditions.
Following material removal, the team executed precise field regrading to reduce the existing crown and create the flatter profile preferred in modern field design. The updated irrigation system installation required careful coordination with existing stadium infrastructure. Our 333G Compact Track Loader and robotic total station blade technology ensured precise grading tolerances critical for proper drainage and playing surface consistency.
